Are you prepared for Insanity Mode in Resident Evil Requiem? This is a new difficulty option, one that will truly test your mettle. Expect lots of enemies, and even more untimely deaths. We've got a few tips to help you get ready.

What can you expect from Insanity Mode in Resident Evil Requiem?

To unlock Insanity Mode in Resident Evil Requiem, you just need to beat the game. That's it. Then, once you're back at the main menu, you can select this option upon starting another playthrough.

Think of Insanity Mode as somewhat akin to Hardcore or Nightmare difficulty in previous games in the series. For starters, you can expect stronger enemies that can easily deplete your health in a single blow. Checkpoint autosaves are also less frequent and you still need Ink Ribbons to do manual saves as Grace. You really can't make mistakes as, otherwise, you'd spend so much time redoing certain sections or encounters.

Note: There are certain differences when it comes to New Game Plus after completing the campaign, regardless of the difficulty option that you choose.

Different item placements and safe combinations

Some items, collectibles, and currencies that you picked up during your first playthrough might not be there in Insanity Mode, as their locations have changed. Antique Coins are pretty good examples of this. While exploring Wrenwood Hotel as Grace, you might notice an Antique Coin on the reception desk, which wasn't there before on other difficulty modes. In relation to this, you're going to spot different items up for grabs in the Parlor room.

By the same token, the safe combinations that you already know by heart are completely altered, too. You're not going to open those containers that easily.

Tougher and more unpredictable enemies

As mentioned, the Resident Evil Requiem Insanity Mode has you fighting deadlier enemies much earlier in the campaign. Not only that, but you also have to contend with slightly more unpredictable behavior, which impacts the infected and your characters.

• During your initial playthrough in the Nurse's Station, you might feel that it's easy to avoid the Girl, as you run from one end of the hallway to the other. On Insanity Mode, the Girl is ridiculously fast, which means you have to utilize adjacent rooms and a bit of trickery with the light just to get away.
• In the Kitchen, pushing the cart takes a long while as the process is unbearably slower this time around. The Chef zombie also likes to take a peek more often.
• Grab attacks done by bosses are more likely to instantly kill your characters.

Tips to complete Insanity Mode

Insanity Mode in Resident Evil Requiem is a true test of your skill. You can dive headlong into it as is, all while doing your best to survive. Things are going to get downright brutal but, if you succeed, then you're really hardcore!

At the same time, Insanity Mode also encourages you to make use of new weapons--and maybe even some infinite ammo cheats--that are unlocked using challenge points (CP). Granted, you won't have enough CP to unlock most of the stuff solely from your first playthrough. This means doing another run to complete other objectives.

We suggest starting a second playthrough on Casual difficulty. This should be a breeze, allowing you to complete some of the more advanced challenges in the game--i.e. Speed Demon, Minimalist, and Never Touch the Stuff. These should net you around 90,000 CP.

Later, assuming you've amassed enough CP, we recommend unlocking these weapons and upgrades for your Insanity Mode run:

• Grace's weapons and upgrades:
  • Kotetsu (Grace) - A knife that will never break; costs 5,000 CP.
  • Freya's Needle (Grace) - A machine pistol that uses handgun ammo; costs 4,000 CP.
  • Matsuoka Master Manual (Grace) - Permanently upgrades the Blood Collector with +50 capacity; costs 1,000 CP.
  • Infinite Ribbon (Grace) - Allows you to save an infinite number of times even at higher difficulties. You must complete the "Speed Demon" challenge--i.e. beat the game and release Elpis in under 4 hours--to unlock it.
• Leon's weapon's and upgrades:
  • Tactical Tracker Modded (Leon) - Earn more credits per kill; costs 3,000 CP.
  • Advanced Tuning (Leon) - Unlocks an extra level of tuning/upgrades for weapon parts. You must destroy all 25 Mr. Raccoon memoriams to unlock this option.
  • Mortal Edge (Leon) - An axe that has exceptional parry capabilities; costs 3,000 CP. (It's better to get this early rather than much later in the campaign when you beat the Commander boss.)
• Uber weapons and cheats if you have a lot of CP to spare:
  • Infinite Ammo: Guns (both characters) - Unlocks infinite ammo for most guns; costs 50,000 CP.
  • RPG-7 (Leon) - A rocket launcher that boasts devastating firepower; costs 15,000 CP.
  • Infinite Ammo: RPG-7 (Leon) - Unlocks infinite ammo for the rocket launcher; costs 35,000 CP.
