GS GTA 6 "Leak" Turns Out To Be A Fake

[UPDATE] It has now come to light that the "bridge" leak was indeed a fake. The creator of the clip apologized "for the chaos" and said the goal was to see if they could "create a believable-looking scene from GTA 6 by recreating everything from the ground up."

"Honestly, the response was way bigger than I ever anticipated," the person said on Reddit.

"This wasn't just a simple edit. I spent months rebuilding a specific fragment of Miami, recreating the UI and spending way too many hours on the post-processing to make it look authentic. I even scrapped my first few versions because they just didn't feel right," the poster explained.

The original story is below.

GTA 6 is the biggest game of the year--or maybe the decade--and people want to know everything there is to know about it. It's now come to light that someone had allegedly leaked footage of the game on their phone for the past four years and is only just sharing it now, while telling everyone please don't DM them for any more information.

The Instagram user vice.city.alligator posted footage of a bridge that a friend reportedly sent them over four years ago. The Instagram user says the video looks so bad because it was sent by email and had to be compressed. The person also never expected to even post it because it is a "nothingburger."

vice.city.alligator said the footage came from a friend who worked at Rockstar Games, but since they no longer work there, "figured I'd drop it," they said (via Kotaku).

It "literally shows nothing," the user said, adding that their friend only sent it to them because it was one part of GTA 6 they were proud of and wanted to show it off.

vice.city.alligator said they don't plan to log into their account again, "so don't bothering asking questions" or sending any DMs asking for more information.

Indeed, the footage does not give much away. It depicts a bridge with a van driving over it and a speedboat zipping by in the distance. The footage provides a sense of scale, too, as it shows a much farther-away bridge in the background. As leaks go, this one is not very exciting, but Rockstar has shared so little about the game, so people are naturally excited for anything new, even if this clip isn't actually new or representative of the state of the game today, if it is real at all.

GTA 6 suffered a massive leak in 2022, an event that Rockstar's owner Take-Two said was "really frustrating and upsetting." The leak was substantial, showing the game's two main characters, Jason and Lucia, and providing a detailed look at the game's world.

After multiple delays, GTA 6 is now set for release on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is expected to become 2026's best-selling game. More information about the game could be revealed soon, as evidence has been discovered that the game's files have been added to the PlayStation Store database.
